Training Course:
Bereavement Support Training (4 hours)
Designed to support attendees in understanding grief and loss following a bereavement, our course provides insight and information to provide some comfort in navigating bereavement for yourself or others.
Grief affects us all at some point and can have a detrimental impact on our lives. Having the skills and knowledge to help manage a challenging life event can reduce the impact and provide reassurance. Knowing how to support others dealing with a bereavement can feel overwhelming, our course will help you to support with confidence, and in a helpful approach.
Focus areas:
Module 1: Introduction
Housekeeping, overview, definition of bereavement, types of bereavement (eg. traumatic grief, expected/sudden, relationship)
Module 2: Bereavement Process - evidence based
Tasks of mourning , 5 stages of grief - anger, denial, bargaining, depression and acceptance
Module 3: Effects of Grief
Impact and associated concerns, symptoms, understanding behaviours
Module 4: Managing Grief
Adjusting, connecting to support, helpful resources/interventions, coping with changes, recognising when support is needed
Module 5: Supporting Others
Initiating conversation, helpful/unhelpful language/phrases, local signposting (cruse/hey mind - referral info and criteria).
